I love YouTube. It’s one thing to describe someone’s music, but when you can actually give people samples, they can hear for themselves what it’s all about.

You’re welcome, Helmut. Gershwin is so often remembered for lovely little bits of fluff like S’Wonderful that we forget what a truly great American composer he was. Some years ago, I saw a performance of Porgy and Bess at the Muny Opera in St. Louis. I still think of that amazing night of music.

The original performance of The Rhapsody with Gershwin conducting has always been a favorite of mine. No later recording even comes close. Thanks for mentioning this wonderful composition.

These guys really did get ignored during the whole Hives/etc. Euro-garage lovefest. Good job featuring an underrated band!

Thanks, Helmut. As I said, I have come to like it, but I still prefer the complexities of his earlier straightahead jazz.

Purchased this album when it was issued. One of my favorites. Am also a great fan ot the early Miles and his stellar bands. A great write up!
